What are BAB files and how to open them

What is a BAB file?

A .BAB file is a Babble! Text Data file.

Babble! Text Data files store data created by Babble!, a DOS-era creative text tool made by Korenthal Associates. Babble! reads sample text files entered by the user, analyzes their content and writing style, and mixes them together to generate a continuous stream of fanciful or humorous prose. The tool includes features for combining built-in or imported texts, applying special effects like accents or stutters, and watching new text form in real time.

These files are written by Babble! when it saves text sample data or the results of its analyses. Users typically import ASCII-text documents for analysis, save their sample collections or mix configurations, and Babble! stores those in its native data files. When the user reopens a Babble! Data file, Babble! can use the stored samples, styles, and mix settings to reproduce or continue generating prose.

Babble! Data files begin with a distinctive header in ASCII: the first bytes are "BABBLE(C)19" starting at offset 0, followed by " Korenthal Associates, Inc." (with trailing special byte 0x1A) at offset 15. These signatures confirm a genuine Babble! data file.

How to open BAB files

Important: Different programs may use files with the BAB file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your BAB file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
