B1N File

What are B1N files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a B1N file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your B1N files.

What is a B1N file?

A .B1N file is a Flymaster B1 Nav Firmware file.

Flymaster B1 Nav Firmware files contain firmware images used to update the Flymaster B1 NAV instrument, a GPS-enabled variometer and flight computer. The firmware adds or upgrades features of the device's internal software, enabling fixes, performance improvements, or new functions for flight and navigation.

Flymaster Avionics provides these firmware files on its official website. To apply a firmware update, the device must be connected to a computer via USB; the user downloads the firmware image (named like "B1NavFirmware.b1n") and uses the FlashB1Nav utility (or a firmware update application) on Windows to send the firmware to the device. The B1 NAV must be placed into its firmware update mode via its on-device menu before the update proceeds.

During updates, Flymaster recommends installing the USB driver (FlymasterUSBdrivers.msi), installing the firmware update tool (FlashB1navSetup.msi), downloading the firmware image file, and then initiating the update via the software while confirming "Yes" to the "Update Now" option on the B1 NAV device. If the device is unresponsive due to a failed update, a "fail-safe firmware update" mode exists to restore functionality.

The files begin with the ASCII signature "FlymasterB1navfirmware" at byte offset 0, followed by byte 0x1A at offset 32.
