What are AZS files and how to open them

What is an AZS file?

An .AZS file is an AirZip FileSECURE Format (original Only) file.

AirZip FileSECURE Format (original Only) secures an existing file using its native format so that the secured file retains the original's structure and can be viewed using its usual application, subject to access permissions. Created by the AirZip FileSECURE Author program, this format is intended for protecting documents, images, CAD files, and other content while allowing users with proper rights to open them in their native applications.

In typical usage, an organization uses FileSECURE Author to "secure" a file by applying encryption and enforcing rights - such as view, print, or copy - via permissions set on a FileSECURE Server. Recipients then use FileSECURE Reader to access secured files. If view permission is granted, the reader may render the document; if copy or print are included, additional operations are enabled. Files in this original-only format do not include a separate print-quality version: the reader displays the original native file, though some features may be unavailable depending on the file type.

Files begin with the four bytes D3 41 5A 53 (which correspond to ".AZS" in ASCII), at the very start of the file. This signature identifies the file as being in this specific AirZip FileSECURE original-only format.

How to open AZS files

Important: Different programs may use files with the AZS file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your AZS file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
