What are ATP3 files and how to open them

What is an ATP3 file?

An .ATP3 file is an Automise Project file.

Automise Project (v3) files are project-definition files used by the Automise automation tool from VSoft Technologies Pty Ltd. They store the configuration of an automation project: all the actions (tasks), variables, file operations, error handling, retry logic, logging preferences, and dependencies in a structured hierarchy. These files are meant for building, running, editing, or maintaining automated workflows on Windows systems using the Automise IDE.

These project files are created and saved by Automise (version 3 and up) whenever a user designs or saves a workflow. They are read by Automise to load the project contents so the automation engine can execute the actions in the prescribed order. They are frequently checked into version control when automation pipelines need tracking of changes over time.

The format is based on XML. Between Automise's version-2 and version-4 changes, the "uncompressed" project format (.ATP3 in version 3, later .ATP4 or .ATP5) uses plain-open XML, which is human-readable and editable with any text or XML editor. Alongside each project file, there may be auxiliary XML files (such as a project information file .ATPINF) holding metadata like layout state, author, persistent variables, or breakpoint settings.

Files in this format begin with the standard XML declaration (for example, <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>) immediately followed by an <VSXML> root element. Internal keywords include ObjectClass="TFBProject", XMLID, TFBACTIONLISTCOLLECTION, TFBVARIABLESCOLLECTION, ENCRYPTEDEDITPASSWORD, FINALBUILDERACTION, MAXRETRYATTEMPTS, ACTIONTYPEID, and PROPERTY NAME. These fields define actions, parameters, variable definitions, retry intervals, action comments, whether failure should be ignored, logging to variables, and other project properties.

How to open ATP3 files

Important: Different programs may use files with the ATP3 file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your ATP3 file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
