What are AQ1 files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening an AQ1 file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your AQ1 files.

What is an AQ1 file?

An .AQ1 file is an AptiQuiz Quiz Data file.

AptiQuiz quiz data files store complete quizzes created with the AptiQuiz program by RJ Software for Windows. Each file contains all information about a particular test: the quiz title, instructions, a set of questions (up to about 500), question types including True/False, Yes/No, Fill-in-the-Blank, and Multiple Choice (with up to six answer choices), correct answers, point values, optional settings like randomization and timing, and grading details.

AptiQuiz writes these files when a quiz is saved (or exported) from within its editing interface. Later the program reads them to present the quiz to test-takers, enforce its settings (e.g. shuffle questions or answers), collect responses, calculate scores, and display or export results. The files are part of AptiQuiz's own workflow rather than a more general format.

Files of this format begin with a specific signature: the ASCII text ".AptiQuizFile" at byte offset zero, which identifies them as AptiQuiz quiz data files.
