ALX1 File

What are ALX1 files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening an ALX1 file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your ALX1 files.

What is an ALX1 file?

An .ALX1 file is a RASAero Document file.

A RASAero Document saves all the input settings you enter for a rocket in the RASAero aerodynamic analysis and flight simulation software so that you can run the simulation later without re-typing your rocket's design. It includes geometry of the rocket's body, fins, nose, boattail (if any), launch lug, rail guide, recovery system, launch site conditions (temperature, wind, elevation), motor data, weights, and comments.

This file acts as a project file used by RASAero: you build the rocket description in the program, then save it; when you open it later, you can generate aerodynamic plots, run flight predictions for boost and coast phases, and adjust parameters without starting over. It is created and read by RASAero; you don't edit it with word processors or general text editors (though it stores structured XML content).

Internally, the file is XML-based with SOAP envelope tags (such as SOAP-ENV, SOAP-ENC) and Microsoft XML schema references. The header begins at byte offset zero with a SOAP-ENV:Envelope tag and namespaces like XMLSchema-instance, schemas.xmlsoap.org and schemas.microsoft.com. Many of the field names saved in the file include ROCKETCLASS, BODYTUBE LENGTH, FINCLASS, LAUNCHLUGDIAMETER, and TOTALWEIGHT.

How to open ALX1 files

Important: Different programs may use files with the ALX1 file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your ALX1 file is, you may need to try a few different programs.

We have not yet verified any programs for Windows that work with this specific file format. If you know one, please use the 'Suggest a program' link below. Thanks!
