What are AIMPPL files and how to open them

What is an AIMPPL file?

An .AIMPPL file is an AIMP PlayList file.

AIMP PlayList files are playlists used by the AIMP music player. They store a structured list of audio tracks, allowing users to group songs, save their order, and optionally include metadata like track names or artists. The files are created when you save or export a playlist in AIMP version 3, and are used to re-load the playlist later for playback.

These playlists are produced by AIMP DevTeam's AIMP program on Windows. Once created, the playlist can be edited within AIMP, shared, or moved between installations of AIMP to restore a saved list of tracks. Older versions of AIMP (pre-3) do not support this format.

Internally, the file is a text-based format rather than a binary blob. It contains keyword-labels such as NAME, TRACK, FLAGS and GROUP (or CURSOR) for organizing the playlist structure and metadata. One of the identifying signatures is the bytes sequence FF FE 23 00 4E 00 61 00 6D 00 65 00 3A 00 ("..#.Name:") at the start of the file. Other keywords appearing anywhere inside include "CURSOR", "FLAGS", "TRACK", and "NAME".

How to open AIMPPL files

Important: Different programs may use files with the AIMPPL file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your AIMPPL file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
