What is an AGLIB file?

An .AGLIB file is an Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Library file.

The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Library format with the .AGLIB extension is an early version of Lightroom's catalog database. It was created by Adobe Lightroom (in pre-1.0 beta releases) to store organized information about a user's photo collection. The file holds metadata such as image tags, search indexes, user preferences, and catalog structure so Lightroom can track, sort, preview and manage large numbers of image files.

Lightroom beta Software writes .AGLIB files while users import and tag photos. After creation, Lightroom reads and updates them whenever you make changes - adding keywords, moving photos, rating or flagging - though Lightroom versions after the initial release stopped using .AGLIB and migrated to newer catalog formats. During normal use you do not edit these files by hand.

Files with the .AGLIB extension display the name "Lightroom Library.aglib" in beta builds. They use a proprietary binary database format. AGLIB was replaced by .LRDB in version 1.0, which itself was replaced by .LRCAT in version 1.1 and later.
