What are AFPT files and how to open them

What is an AFPT file?
An .AFPT file is an Audfprint Hash file.
Audfprint Hash files store precomputed audio fingerprint data generated by the audfprint tool developed by Daniel P. W. Ellis. They enable fast matching of audio snippets against a database by saving computed hash outputs so that the original audio need not be reprocessed each time.
These files are created by audfprint during the "precompute" stage, where the software analyzes an audio file to extract landmark‐based fingerprints. A database of these fingerprints can later be queried, allowing audfprint to match short or noisy audio fragments by comparing hash values and their timing. Audfprint supports loading these .AFPT files directly into its database for matching operations.
Inside an .AFPT file the content begins with a specific ASCII header signature at byte offset 0, followed by binary data representing timestamped hashes. The file starts with the string audfprinthashV00. The data following this header consists of pairs of 32-bit integers: one integer encodes the time offset, the other encoded hash value.
How to open AFPT files
Important: Different programs may use files with the AFPT file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your AFPT file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
