What are AF3 files and how to open them

What is an AF3 file?

An .AF3 file is an ABC FlowCharter Chart file.

ABC FlowCharter Chart is a chart file used by the flowcharting program originally called ABC FlowCharter (later known as Micrografx FlowCharter and then iGrafx FlowCharter). It stores flowcharts, process maps, org charts or other business diagram layouts, with vector-based shapes and connectors.

These files are created by the ABC FlowCharter application when a user saves a diagram in the program's native format. Once made, the .AF3 file lets the same or compatible software reopen the chart later to edit shapes, labels, routing of connecting lines, layout and other diagram-specific properties.

Byte-level identifiers include a three-bytes sequence at offset 0x001800 "JFO" in ASCII, along with embedded text strings ".AFP" and ".AF3" somewhere in the file. These help applications recognize the file as an ABC FlowCharter chart rather than arbitrary data.

How to open AF3 files

Important: Different programs may use files with the AF3 file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your AF3 file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
