Opening AEX files

Did your computer fail to open an AEX file? We explain what AEX files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your AEX files.

What is an AEX file?

The .aex file extension is commonly used in files associated with Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) encryption application for Microsoft

Windows. Files with .aex extension are identified as encoded encryption files that are used to protect the users' communications,

emails, files, directories, and whole disk partitions. It also contains the protocols for data authentication and security analysis.

AEX files are also used in some security software to detect anomalies and viruses from incoming electronic communications.

PGP or Pretty Good Program is a program that uses a fast encryption algorithm which is utilized to encrypt and decrypt email over the

Internet. It also serves as a software that authenticates messages with digital signatures and encrypted stored files. PGP also uses

public key systems to generate .aex files. This system requires each user an encryption key that is publicly known and a private key

that is known only to the user. The user can encrypt a message before sending it to someone using their public key. When the other

user receives the message, he can decrypt it using his own private key.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
