What are AERO files and how to open them

What is an AERO file?

An .AERO file is an Aero Studio Song file.

Aero Studio Song files are project/song data files used by the music sequencer Aero Studio, developed by ioNeo. These files store a complete composition: pattern-based tracks (notes, instruments, effects), settings for VST or internal generators, tempo, time signature, mixer settings and song structure. They are created when you save your work inside Aero Studio and let you reopen, edit and render the song later.

When you launch Aero Studio and load a .AERO file, the program reads all the data needed to reconstruct the song as you last saved it. This includes which instruments or VST plug-ins are used, note and pattern arrangement, any automation or parameter changes, and mix settings. You cannot play a .AERO song in a standard media player, since the file contains control and configuration data rather than raw audio; the sequencer renders audio from that data. The workflow is: compose within Aero Studio → save as .AERO → later open .AERO to adjust or export.

Internally, .AERO files begin with a byte signature "AERO" followed by specific version data, for example bytes 0x4145524F00000001 starting at offset 0. That header helps programs recognize the format. The file format supports pattern-based sequencing, VST instrument assignments, internal generators, pattern clipboard data (in newer versions XML-formatted), and other song metadata.

How to open AERO files

Important: Different programs may use files with the AERO file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your AERO file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
