What are ADCP files and how to open them

What is an ADCP file?

An .ADCP file is an Adobe Device Central Project file.

Adobe Device Central Project files are saved project documents for Adobe's Device Central application, which supported designers and developers in testing and previewing mobile content. These files are used to manage assets (like FLA, PNG, or SWF files), define which mobile devices to target, set up automated testing workflows, and organize tasks that apply to groups of these files. They serve as containers to coordinate mobile projects from start to deployment.

These .ADCP files are created by Device Central (discontinued in 2012) when you make or save a mobile project. You open Adobe Device Central, assemble your files, choose the test device or device group, define testing and export tasks, then save the project, which emits a .ADCP file. You later reopen this .ADCP in Device Central to resume work: edit assets, change device selections, run tests, or export content.

Technically, the .ADCP file is XML-based. It begins with an XML declaration (<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>) and carries structured elements such as Test Devices, Files, Automated Testing, Tasks, and Tasks GUIDs. Keywords like TASKS, PROJECT, GENERAL, COPYING TASKS (COPYFILETO), and device GUIDs are embedded in the document along with settings like width, dialog height, encoding, and title values.

How to open ADCP files

Important: Different programs may use files with the ADCP file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your ADCP file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
