Did your computer fail to open an ABS file? We explain what they are used for and recommend software that we know can open or otherwise handle your .ABS files.

What is an ABS file?

Files that contain the .abs file extension are most commonly associated with MPEG audio sound files. These MPEG files contain the audio-visual data for movie, music and video files in a compressed file format and are saved with the .abs file extension. These ABS files are audio files that follow the MPEG coding standards.

The GNU C Compiler ELF/DWARF files also use the .abs file suffix. These files contain absolute files that are used by the compiler.

The Avant Web browser also uses the .abs file extension. These ABS files contain skin files that allow a user to customize the look and feel of the Avant browser interface.

Suggest another file format using extension ABS

While we know of one file format using the .ABS file extension, there may be more. It is widespread that different programs use files with the same file extension for very different types of data. Please let us know if you are aware of a different kind of .ABS file.
