What is an A5WCMP file?

An .A5WCMP file is an Alpha Five Web Components file.

Alpha Five Web Components files store reusable user interface components built with Alpha Software's Alpha Five / Alpha Anywhere platform, used in web applications for creating responsive and custom web components. They define the structure, appearance, behavior, and dependencies of components such as dialog boxes, data grids, navigation panels, login forms, or reusable UX widgets. These files are typically crafted by developers to package a component so it can be inserted into web pages (A5W pages), shared between projects, or reused in multiple locations with configurable arguments.

These component files are created using Alpha Anywhere's Web Projects Control Panel, or via the Web Component Builder within Alpha Five / Alpha Anywhere. Once a .A5WCMP file is made, it can be copied into another web project folder to share or reuse; components may expose arguments and reference external resources such as CSS, JavaScript, or Xbasic scripting files, which also need to accompany the file when moved. At runtime, web pages (.A5W) load components defined by .A5WCMP files; the system can also generate static HTML versions of components for faster initial loading.

Files of this type are recognized internally by a binary signature: they begin with the ASCII string "A5BLOBST" at offset zero. Inside the file are keywords and fields such as COMPONENTNAME, COMPONENTTYPE, JAVASCRIPTFUNCTIONDECLARATIONS, STYLE_NAME, LANGUAGEDDEF, TEMPLATE, ARGUMENTS, CLIENTSIDE, SERVER, and others, which define styles, behavior, content, and configuration settings of the component.

How to open A5WCMP files
