What is a CDSF file?

A .CDSF file is an Amiga Component Data Stream Format Video file.

Amiga Component Data Stream Format Video is a proposed interactive multimedia animation format for the Amiga computer ecosystem. It was envisioned as a more capable alternative to the ANIM format, aiming to support synchronized audio and video, dynamic playback control, multilingual text, and a range of compression options to improve storage efficiency and playback performance. Its design emphasizes modular, component-based data streams that allow mixing of video, audio, and custom content like formatted text or user events.

The format is intended to be written by programs or tools implementing the CDSF specification, enabling artists or developers to create interactive movies or multimedia sequences. Playback or rendering tools built for Amiga hardware would read the CDSF files, decode the components (such as raw or delta compressed video frames, sampled audio, custom text chunks), synchronize them, and handle interactivity or dynamic control when defined.

Internally, the file begins with an IFF wrapper, using the FORM construct, then identifies itself as the CDSF type. Byte signatures include the ASCII "FORM" at offset 0 and "CDSF" at offset 8, which mark the format and help file parsers recognize it. Chunks inside the file may include classic IFF nested FORMs like ILBM (bitmap video frames), 8SVX (audio), FTXT (formatted text), and custom chunk types for user-defined data streams or playback control events.

How to open CDSF files

Important: Different programs may use files with the CDSF file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your CDSF file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
