What are 4PP files and how to open them

What is a 4PP file?

A .4PP file is a Photoparade Slideshow file.

Photoparade Slideshow files (extension .4PP, formerly .PHP) are project files created by PhotoParade, a slideshow-creation application from Callisto Corporation. They store all the information needed to build a digital photo presentation, such as what images to show, the order, captions, themes, transitions, screen size settings, background music, and other design or timing choices. These files do not directly play like video or image files; instead they serve as blueprints that PhotoParade uses to generate the actual slideshow output.

PhotoParade writes .4PP files when a user makes or edits a slideshow. Typical workflows involve creating the slideshow inside PhotoParade, saving it as a .4PP file for future editing, and then using PhotoParade to export or display the slideshow. If images, sound files, or other media referenced in the .4PP are moved or deleted, the slideshow may fail to find them. The "Player" component of PhotoParade is (or was) used to view or distribute finished slideshows made from .4PP files.

Files start with a specific signature: at offset 0 they contain the bytes 0x00000018 58 50 42 21 (ASCII "…XPB!"). Inside the file are many internal keywords such as "PHOTOPARADE MAKERBLDV", "SCREENSIZE", "PPXFILENAME", "TITLEMIDI", "VERSION", "THEMES", "NUMP", and "PPXV" among others, which describe slideshow settings, theme definitions, number of pictures, file names, transitions, and timing.

How to open 4PP files

Important: Different programs may use files with the 4PP file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your 4PP file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
