What is a 0001 file?

A .0001 file is an Imagine 3D Animation file.

Imagine 3D Animation files with a ".0001" extension are animation files created by the Imagine 3-D rendering software on the Amiga computer. Designed to store full motion sequences rendered by Imagine, they capture successive frames of 3D scenes (with colors, lighting, camera position, etc.) so that they can be played back as animations.

These files are produced by Imagine when rendering a 3D animation project. The software renders each frame according to the scene setup, lighting, camera, shaders, etc., then packages the frames into this animation format so that users can view or process the animation as a continuous sequence. Typical uses include previewing rendered scenes, exporting finished animations for video or further editing, or archiving rendered frame sequences in a compact animated file.

Internally, a .0001 file uses the Amiga IFF (Interchange File Format) structure. It begins with a FORM header and includes chunk identifiers such as IANDBPCT, CMAP (color palette), and BODY (pixel data). The header signature "FORM" appears at offset 0, followed by "IANDBPCT" at offset 8, then "CMAP" at offset 24 and "BODY" at offset 80. The file contains those strings "IANDBPCT", "CMAP", and "BODY" to mark its internal structure.

How to open 0001 files

Important: Different programs may use files with the 0001 file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your 0001 file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
