What is a PPS file?

A .PPS file is a Microsoft PowerPoint Slide file.

The .pps extension is given to files created in earlier versions of Microsoft PowerPoint. The .pps extension is used when creating PowerPoint documents in versions of PowerPoint prior to the 2007 edition. The 2007 and later versions of Microsoft PowerPoint assign the .ppsx extension to files created within the application.

The PowerPoint application is used to create digital slide shows for business and educational purposes, although it has been used for the creation of personal picture slide shows as well.

PowerPoint files can contain a combination of pictures and text and even some movies. However, unlike the .ppsx files created in new versions of PowerPoint, the .pps files are not created in the XML file format.
