What are PMX files and how to open them

What is a PMX file?

PMX files have multiple uses, and PageMaker Data is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

PageMaker Data File

These PMX files are documents generated using the Adobe PageMaker desktop publishing software. The .pmx file contains a single or a number of PageMaker documents.

PageMaker is now an obsolete Adobe application which was replaced by Adobe InDesign. Since the main program that specifically uses .pmx files is now considered obsolete, support for PMX files has also ceased.

Nevertheless, users may still access the contents of a PMX file by converting it to other Adobe-based readable file types like .pdf. PMX file conversion and exportation are made possible by the Adobe InDesign software.

How to open PMX files

Important: Different programs may use files with the PMX file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your PMX file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
