Opening OCX files

Did your computer fail to open an OCX file? We explain what OCX files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your OCX files.

What is an OCX file?

Files that contain the .ocx file extension are object linking and embedding files. OCX files are most commonly used within ActiveX forms that are used within interactive applications and websites. The files themselves are usually written in the C++ programming language with a variety of software development programs.

OCX files were initially referred to as OLE custom controls. Files with the .ocx extension are created for applications that run on the Microsoft Windows operating systems. They allow applications to perform tasks like scroll bar movements and windows resizing. Most Windows applications will use the OCX file format for such purposes.
