The ZoneAlarm Client is initially developed by Zone Labs, which later acquired by Check Point Software Technologies. The ZoneAlarm Client is a personal firewall software application which comprises the ability to be in command of which programs can create outbound connections, and an inbound intrusion detection system.
The heart of ZoneAlarm Client is the True Vector Internet Monitor or the TrueVector Security Engine. It is a Windows service which executes as vsmon.exe in the processes list. This TrueVector Security Engine keeps an eye on internet traffic and generates alerts for prohibited access. The program access in ZoneAlarm Client is controlled by means of two different Zones: the Trusted Zone which provides the users’ local network, and the Internet Zone Which provides everything not in Trusted Zone. Before a particular program access the web, users can denote first which permission to give to that program.
In addition, the ZoneAlarm Client provides SmartDefense Advisor, which aids users with certain alerts. To provide users with additional recommendation upon requests from the program with regards to tolerating or rejecting access to the Internet, The SmartDefense Advisor makes use of a database of trusted program signatures.
