What is X-Lite?

X-Lite from CounterPath Corporation provides the user with softphone technology that will allow them to make phone calls via the Internet, without need for additional hardware or connection device. Users however, are advised that in order to take advantage of the benefits of the software, they will need either a VoIP (Voice over IP) subscription or Internet subscription from a service provider.

Designed after the company’s premium telephony programs, eyeBeam and Bria, X-Lite is the free version of the programs, also integrated with capabilities for making phone and video calls over the Internet. It can also connect several users at a time for conference calls. The user interface displays a picture of a mobile phone, which has all the number and function keys of a traditional mobile.

The software also provides an instant messaging (IM) tool, an editable contact list and support for voicemail. Users are likewise provided with call logs and history. A utility for recording calls and organizing contacts in dedicated groups are also provided with the software.

It is available for Windows and Mac OS X.
