Windows Live Sync

If you are looking for Windows Live Sync, you have come to the right place. We explain what Windows Live Sync is and point you to the official download.

What is Windows Live Sync?

Windows Live Sync is a free online application provided by Microsoft. The application’s main function is to enable users to synchronize their folders and files with other computers, or through the SkyDrive file hosting service from Microsoft.

PC-to-PC synchronization allows the user to sync all their desktop files with that of another user’s computer, eliminating the need for copying of files to an external device and transferring the files to another machine through the device.

In other words, the application provides a peer-to-peer type of file sharing, except that the connection is not open to the public; and only those that are given access are able to synchronize and share files. Users are allowed to synchronize up to hundreds of thousands of files with P2P type of sharing, and up to 5 GB in the cloud storage, SkyDrive.

Apart from synching files and folders, users are also allowed to sync applications through P2P, specifically Internet Explorer favorites and MS Office dictionaries and templates.

Windows Live Sync, formerly known as Windows Live FolderShare, can be applied to Windows and Mac OS X computers. For Mac OS X, 10.5 Leopard or higher is required.
