Vault Explorer

If you are looking for Vault Explorer, you have come to the right place. We explain what Vault Explorer is and point you to the official download.

What is Vault Explorer?

Vault Explorer is a part of the Autodesk Vault software. Autodesk Vault is an information management program that belongs to the Autodesk Inventor programs used by professionals in design-related fields. The aim of Autodesk Vault is essentially to allow teams and other concerned individuals access to the design data and the documentation for its processes, even while ensuring that users get only the level of access appropriate to them. The Autodesk Vault software also records each version of a project design and keeps a history of all alterations made to it, allowing users to manage data and designs across a team.

The Vault Explorer’s role in the Autodesk Vault system is to serve as a client application for the system: it allows users to view files stored in the Vault without giving them write access to it (i.e. they have “read only” access to the files). The program’s interface is modeled after Windows Outlook’s. It is capable of operating in conjunction with CAD programs and shows users more than a graphic display (if applicable) to the file being viewed: it can also show them the file’s metadata, for instance. This makes it a critical part of the Autodesk Vault utilities.
