The Times Reader is the free application bundled with a New York Times digital print subscription, and offers fully offline enjoyment of the newspaper after an initial synchronization. This allows the subscriber to read the broadsheet’s digital edition at their leisure without having to be connected to the Internet all the time most unlike the other users and visitors of the New York Times website. Also, the Times Reader presents the newspaper not in a web format, as in the website, but in the way how it was printed as is, retaining all its printed goodness and typography. Though there is a version of the Times Reader, to access the full functionality of the application you will have to purchase a digital subscription, and it runs on Windows, Mac OS, and Linux platforms on a desktop or laptop.
The Times Reader runs on Adobe AIR, and is thus not compatible with iOS devices, such as the iPad (mostly because Apple does not support Adobe products). It is recommended to have a reliable and decent Internet connection, however, as syncing may take anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes, and it would take much longer if the process is done on a slower connection.
File.org aims to be the go-to resource for file type- and related software information. We spend countless hours researching various file formats and software that can open, convert, create or otherwise work with those files.
If you have additional information about which types of files Times Reader can process, please do get in touch - we would love hearing from you.
