What is TightVNC?
TightVNC is a free application that provides you with remote control for a remote machine’s desktop by using your keyboard and mouse. It gives you a full source code. You can use it for commercial or personal purposes such as education, technical support and administrative tasks. It can run on Windows and Linux with Java client. It is compatible with standard VNC. It configures to specifications of RFB protocol. You can save time monitoring your computers while you are away, or remotely help other people solve their computer problems.
TightVNC 2.6 features the new Java Viewer that is a remote control client with fully functional on any computer running on Windows, Mac, Soloris or Linux with installed Java. It also works on your Web browser. Its two main features include the connection history to keep you from retyping the same input twice and the SSH Tunneling that secures your TightVNC connections. The new version also lets you to choose the hosts you have connected to from the history list, and saves your connection hosts automatically for every host.
The SSH Tunneling or SSH port forwarding allow you to make a secure connection on unsecure networks. You can created an encrypted virtual tunnel leading to a remote SSH server that enables your application’s data to pass through that tunnel. To make this feature work, you must have SSH server access installed on your destination network. Start TightVNC Java Viewer, then choose Use SSH Tunneling. Specify SSH server that you will connect to. It will automatically create the SSH tunnel.
