What is SwitchBox Utility?

The SwitchBox Utility by OMRON is a helpful tool designed for debugging Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). Its main function is to allow users to monitor and modify the values of I/O memory in CPU Units. This software provides a graphical interface on a PC, displaying the values of I/O memory in both words and bits, along with helpful comments. By utilizing function keys, users can easily set or reset bits, force-set or force-reset bits, select a monitored group, and work with the CX-Simulator.

One of the key features of the SwitchBox Utility is the ability to register address groups for monitoring. This means that you can define specific bits and words to be monitored, and save them as a group for future use. The registered address groups can be easily modified and selected, allowing for flexibility in monitoring different areas of memory. The software allows for up to 100 address groups to be registered, providing ample space for managing different monitoring configurations.

In addition to its monitoring capabilities, the SwitchBox Utility also offers convenient import and export functions. Users can import addresses with I/O comments from various sources, such as the memory card mounted to the PLC, the global symbol table of the CX-Programmer, tab-delimited text files, or the clipboard. This allows for easy integration of existing data into the software. Similarly, addresses with I/O comments can be exported to tab-delimited text files or the clipboard, making it simple to share or analyze the monitoring data outside of the software.
