Altiris developed the Software Virtualization Solution or SVS software as an approach to software management. SVS lets you instantly activate, deactivate, or reset applications, by placing applications and data into managed units called AltirisVirtual Software Package (VSP) formats. VSP prevents clashes between applications without changing the base Windows installation. SVS is offered in two versions. The commercial version lets users make and distribute Virtual Software Packages. The Free version is intended for personal use and permits users to manage their own virtual layers right in their own space.
VSP provides users with simple apps and data with its included tool that is similar to the regular commercial product shipped by Altiris, without the server-side components for centralized management. Version 2.1.2084 is recommended for all SVS customers. The developer is a subsidiary of Symantec, dedicated in service-oriented management software which tolerates groups to handle IT assets. It also offers software for web services, security, and systems management products.
