What is ProSource?

Zemax’s ProSource software is a program used for light source analysis, often with a view to designing lighting systems. It is very often used by designers and engineers focusing on illumination.

There are two available versions of ProSource. The first is the 10SE edition, which allows users to analyze radiant source models, generate ray sets, and generate EULUMDAT and IES files. The other edition, the 10DB version, also has all these capabilities but builds upon them by also including access to more than 600 radiant source models conforming to industry standards.

In practical terms, the features of the program can be leveraged for the purpose of simulating or testing lighting system and light source designs from illumination engineers, allowing them to identify potential weaknesses in their work prior to installation. It can produce photopic ray sets for various luminance design systems and can also calculate Unified Glare Ratings on demand. It can also generate spectrally ray sets as well as RGB sets. Data plots are available in both 2D and 3D versions, and users can check various characteristics or values of different points in the source as desired, from the CCT to the luminance value.
