What is PowerGUI?
PowerGUI is a free utility that network and IT administrators can use to accelerate Windows PowerShell adoption in a corporate environment and even use PowerShell to perform much more efficiently than it would otherwise with the built-in tools in Windows. At the heart of PowerGUI beats the Point, Click, Script function, which allows administrators to manipulate PowerShell’s features via a simple graphical user interface (GUI), hence its name, bypassing the need to have extensive scripting knowledge and making it much easier for users who wish to harness the power of PowerShell. This exclusive feature of PowerGUI makes it easy to script with just using the mouse – all the script-building tools are right in the interface itself.
PowerGUI also features an integrated development environment (IDE) for PowerShell which includes such tools as intellisense and a debugger. A GUI is not complete without customization, though, so PowerGUI comes equipped with customization functions so users can form the application to suit their needs. Additionally, PowerPacks – script templates that the PowerGUI community has designed – can be inserted to speed up script building and eliminate the need to build scripts from scratch.
