POV-Ray

What is POV-Ray?

The POV-Ray, also known as the Persistence of Vision Raytracer, is a type of free software tool which is used for making 3D graphics. Its source code is available for users who want to create their own ports. With its latest version, version 3.7, POV-Ray is released under the AGPL3 license, making it a free software according to the FSF definition. Full source code is available, letting users create their own versions and for developers to include parts or the entire POV-Ray source inside their own software, as long as it is under a compatible license. The developers of POV-Ray’s also offer officially-supported binaries for certain platforms.

POV-Ray 3.7.0, which was released in November 2013, is the latest version of all platforms. This version includes some internal modifications because of the introduction of the SMP support. POV-Ray for Windows requires a Windows XP operating system. It has been tested on different versions, including Windows 8. It is recommended that the computer has at least 100mb of disk space, and at least 1GB of available memory. Since the POV-Ray for Windows contains both 64-bit and 32-bit binaries, the setup file determines which one will serve as the main program link.
