What is Pixie?

Pixie from Tech4Learning is one of those programs slotted into the “creative software” category. Available in versions for Windows, Mac, the iPad, Android and Kindle, the program helps users create multimedia projects on a digital canvas. It is capable of taking audio, video, visual, and interactive content to be components in its projects, which aim to help children further their learning through creative application and interaction with their educational material. Children can build media-rich study guides with their own narratives, their original art, and creative genius, and then share those guides with others to stimulate or excite a similar creative process in their fellows.

Specific applications of the program have included teachers encouraging children to use it and create original multimedia stories based on things they have recently learned. Others have encouraged kids to employ Pixie in team projects at school, letting all members of the group add their own twist to a single project. The program also supports online sharing of projects through upload to the Web and provides tools for exporting projects in a number of formats, including ePub (ebook) and PDF as well as HTML5.
