What is PCMark?

FutureMark’s PCMark is the benchmark for benchmarking software, used by professionals and gamers who wish to test their custom-designed rig under the rigors of a that will test the capabilities of their hardware to the limit. Specifically designed to test a computer system at a system and component level, PCMark simulates the workloads of several consumption schemes, such as an average usage scheme or a gaming usage scheme. In essence, a higher score from PCMark means that a computer system has better performance (which is almost always indicative of the capability of the hardware installed)

PCMark has a free version, called Basic Edition, which features the core performance tests of its premium cousins. This includes a complete measurement test of the system, which is broken down into three categories: Home, Creative, and Work benchmarking tests. Furthermore, the Basic Edition not only works for PCs, but for other devices as well, such as tablets, and the results of the test are explained in a clear manner that does not require technical jargon know-how. All editions of PCMark, however, can be synchronized on a cloud-based service to manage the results of the tests, which is useful for managing multiple computers.
