Parallels Tools Center is part of the software Parallels Desktop, which is software from Parallels IP Holdings GmbH. The primary function of the software is to enable users to run a Windows environment on a Mac machine. The user is then provided with two operating systems that work simultaneously with one another.
The software enables the user to install and run Windows-enabled programs and applications, where these function as they normally would on an actual Windows computer. Parallels Tools Center is the application that launches the Parallels Desktop program.
Parallels Desktop allows the user to access Mac OS X programs and applications from the guest OS, which is Windows; and in like manner, the user is able to access Windows programs and applications from the host OS, which is Mac OS X.
The program also features an application known as Coherence Mode which allows the user to run Windows apps in the Mac OS X environment, with the Windows desktop hidden in the background.
Parallels Desktop only launches when a Windows application is accessed.
