What is PagePlus?
PagePlus is a desktop publishing application developed by Serif, first released in 1991 and has several iterations that improved upon the preceding generation since then. It currently supports the Windows operating system, able to work on Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8. Criticism, however has been leveled at the PagePlus free trial version, called PagePlus Starter Edition that as of version 4 requires users to install a third-party download manager that comes with an adware called My Search Dial (a toolbar on Internet Explorer). The process is needlessly complicated in that Serif would then email an activation code to unlock the free trial; only then can PagePlus Starter Edition be used. Written in C++, PagePlus has failed to achieve success among professionals for its lack of Macintosh support.
PagePlus is a user-friendly application targeted especially for new users, although newer versions have also included functionalities similar to those of the enterprise-level editions of its competitors, such as Adobe InDesign and Quark XPress. Aside from the usual desktop publishing features of PagePlus, it can also create and edit PDF documents and e-books in MOBI or EPUB formats.
