What is Package Installer?
Package Installer is a module that is part of the software JRiver Media Center. The Media Center (MC) has several functions: media file manager, video player, audio player and image editor.
MC scans the computer once, when it is launched for the first time, to search for all media files stored in folder and directories. After all files have been identified and analyzed by the program, it stores the files into its library. From this database, the user can easily access all files through the interface. First time media scanning can be launched automatically or manually.
It features audio output modes to provide users with options for audio playback. As a video player, it utilizes Red October, a DirectShow filter system developed by JRiver. Users can download, install and watch videos in standard or high definition mode.
With a TV tuner, users can also watch TV broadcasts on their computer.
The Package Installer module manages installation of all components of the Media Center software. It can automatically update the software, and also manage installation of upgrades.
The Media Center may come bundled with select PC brands and models. As a standalone product, it can be purchased from the manufacturer’s website.
