InfraRecorder

If you are looking for InfraRecorder, you have come to the right place. We explain what InfraRecorder is and point you to the official download.

What is InfraRecorder?

InfraRecorder is a free and open source (previously proprietary, but is open source since version 0.46) optical media disc writing (or burning) application developed exclusively for the Microsoft Windows platform. InfraRecorder was first developed in 2006 by Christian Kindahl during the Google Summer of Code event, and was selected by the editors of CNET as one of the best free CD and DVD burning alternative to commercial software, in November 2007. To date, InfraRecorder is one of the more well-known free burners in the market, and is distributed and managed under the third iteration of the GNU General Public License (GPL). InfraRecorder, as an application, uses the cdrtools software library to write data, or to burn, to physical media discs.

Being a free alternative to such commercial giants like Nero, InfraRecorder boasts other features that were hitherto the province of only paid, professional software, such as support for rewriting and dual-layer DVDs, and burning from disc images (currently supports ISO only). Aside from its small memory footprint and file size, it is also completely portable so you don't need to install and uninstall it. Other features include the ability to burn data and multisession discs, and if it is present, it can also utilize the LAME MP3 audio encoder to rip tracks directly from audio CDs.
