HijackThis

If you are looking for HijackThis, you have come to the right place. We explain what HijackThis is and point you to the official download.

What is HijackThis?

HijackThis is an open source security tool for Windows. It targets methods that hijack your browser instead of focusing on the database of the known spyware. It scans your computer and displays the location of the browser hijacking, and displays the entries that are there. It does not detect or remove spyware. Its main function is to list the locations where the browser hijacking activity is taking place. Browser hijacking can lead to malware installation on your computer. The program creates a logfile in plain text format to list down all the entries that it detects. It can fix some of the entries affected. Inexperienced users should be careful with using the application because the program cannot differentiate unwanted from legitimate items that it detects. There is a possibility that the user might accidentally delete legitimate files or prevent valid applications from running, or worse for the computer to stop operating.

This program tries to backup registry entries and files that it repairs so you can restore the system. Automated tools provide recommended actions for the user, and analyzes the saved logs. It also automatically cleans entries. Later editions of HijackThis provide additional features such as hosts file editor, alternate data stream scanner and a task manager.
