What is FormReader?

FormReader was a platform that functions as a document capturing system. It was developed by a Lithuanian company called ABBYY Software but it is no longer available on the market since the latter part of 2011. This platform has been replaced by another data capturing system called ABBYY FlexiCapture 10.

FormReader was first developed in 1995 alongside two other ABBYY projects that focused on handwriting recognition system and data extraction system. This software was widely used in banks in the region of Eastern Europe and was primarily utilized in recognizing payments forms and in processing order forms. The handwriting recognition system was later then integrated, thus the project was completed in the year 1998.

Another version of the FormReader was released in 2005 where the eFormDesigner capability was integrated. This tool was primarily used designer electronic files for various purposes. This capability is further enhanced by another integrated tool called eFormFiller. This software was also used by the Lithuanian State Tax Inspectorate for tax declaration purposes. FormReader was eventually replaced by ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 in 2011 which also uses eFormFiller and eFormDesigner tools but in a completely different architecture.
