ExtendScript Toolkit

If you are looking for ExtendScript Toolkit, you have come to the right place. We explain what ExtendScript Toolkit is and point you to the official download.

What is ExtendScript Toolkit?

Adobe’s Extend Script Toolkit, often abbreviated to ESTK, is a free utility that is used to develop, write, or debug JavaScript scripts that are included in Adobe’s CS (Creative Suite) line of programs. Starting with Adobe CS4, it is also concerned with the scripts developed for specific Adobe applications such as Bridge, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and After Effects. Prior to the Extend Script Toolkit, custom, user-designed scripts for these programs were written manually on Notepad and run, often with devastating and problematic results if the script was wrong or in wrong syntax. With the ESTK, these problems are circumvented, with a lot of tools and features to help developers and advanced users along.

One of these features is the built-in syntax checker. Acting like the spell-checker in word processing software, the syntax checker of ESTK goes over the entire script and alerts you if you are using a syntax that is incorrect (or even, at times, if the syntax is inappropriate in context), and then gives you suggestions on how to fix or correct them. Another is the capability to run the script without having to save it, which is, in effect, a preview of the script.
