Ingram Digital Group’s CourseSmart is a website as well as ereader that facilitates digital textbook rental and access. Users simply go the site and register themselves, then purchase access to the textbooks they need: selection-wise, CourseSmart is considered as one of the better options in its field, given that its textbook coverage for US education is usually pegged from 80%-90% yearly. Users do not typically have access to textbooks indefinitely, however, which explains why it is considered a digital textbook rental service. Textbooks are usually accessible for a pre-determined time, after which they leave the user’s bookshelf. The most common timeframe given is around half a year.
The program’s ereader software can be used on either a mobile device (the app version) or a desktop/laptop. The program emulates textbook appearance and pagination, supports annotation by the user, allows users to perform topic searches within textbooks, and permits page printing as well (though there are limits to this). It also works with hearing- or visually-impaired user assistance technologies such as text readers. The software allows users to perform copy+paste functions with the content of their rented materials too.
Our users primarily use CourseSmart to open these file types:
File.org aims to be the go-to resource for file type- and related software information. We spend countless hours researching various file formats and software that can open, convert, create or otherwise work with those files.
If you have additional information about which types of files CourseSmart can process, please do get in touch - we would love hearing from you.
