BYOND is both an application and a community: the former refers to the software used to create games that are played by members of the latter. The BYOND software is specifically used to create free online multiplayer games accessible through the BYOND site. While many people refer to the game development application as the BYOND game development program, its actual name is in fact Dream Maker.
BYOND’s Dream Maker is an agglomeration of game tools that permit users to develop their games more easily than with other game developers requiring boilerplate code: the software in Dream Maker takes care of most of the coding details, sparing game developers that job. There are of course still editors for code and interfaces in the program. For instance, the program immediately supplies the user with a two-dimensional tiled world on which to create maps—which he can then generate straight on that world with the map editor. This saves the user the hassle of having to script a code that will load the map for him from another file.
The software makes use of a programming language exclusive to it, which developers designed for object-orientation and simplicity.
Our users primarily use BYOND to open these file types:
File.org aims to be the go-to resource for file type- and related software information. We spend countless hours researching various file formats and software that can open, convert, create or otherwise work with those files.
If you have additional information about which types of files BYOND can process, please do get in touch - we would love hearing from you.
