TrueCrypt

If you are looking for TrueCrypt, you have come to the right place. We explain what TrueCrypt is and point you to the official download.

What is TrueCrypt?

TrueCrypt is an open-source application that performs volume encryption of data storage devices for Mac OS X, Linux, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 systems. Its main features include creating a virtual encrypted disk in a file and mounting it as real disk; encrypting an entire storage device such as USB flash drive or an entire hard drive; pre-boot authentication by encrypting the drive or location where Windows is installed. It enables transparent, automatic and real-time encryption. Your data can be read just as fast as a normally unencrypted file through pipelining and parallelization. Encryption on modern processors may be hardware-accelerated.

TrueCrypt protects your password from being revealed by any adversary through its plausible deniability. It enables steganography to create a hidden volume called TrueCrypt volume in this application. It is to create a TrueCrypt volume within another TrueCrypt volume. The password for your hidden volume is different from the password of the outer volume. Even if the outer volume is revealed, the hidden volume is unrecognizable the free space in the outer volume is filled with random data that will make the hidden volume hard to distinguish. TrueCrypt will not modify your file system in any way. You can also create a hidden operating system.
