What are M4P files and how to open them

What is a M4P file?

A .M4P file is a Protected iTunes Music Store audio track file.

Files that contain the .m4p file extension are audio files that have been downloaded from the iTunes Music Store onto a user's computer. M4P files are protected AAC files that use Apple's "Fairplay" DRM copy-protection technology.

THE M4P file format limits the number of computers that a user can play a specific file on. If a user wants to play the M4P file on their computer, the computer must be authorized using the Apple iTunes application. A user can authorize up to five different computers using the same iTunes account.

If a user wants to play the file on more than five computers, they must create a second account. They must purchase the song with that account, allowing another 5 computers to access the song.

How to open M4P files

Important: Different programs may use files with the M4P file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your M4P file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
