XviD MPEGVideo Codec
If you are looking for XviD MPEGVideo Codec, you have come to the right place. We explain what XviD MPEGVideo Codec is and point you to the official download.
What is XviD MPEGVideo Codec?
Xvid is an open-source MPEG-4 video codec used to compress digital video to make for greater disk storage efficiency and to increase transmission speed over computer networks. Xvid is like ZIP for video, except there is some loss in quality, albeit visually imperceptible. By removing unimportant information from the video Xvid allows for very high compression ratio of 200:1 or more. As an example, a 30-minute uncompressed digital video can take up about 50 GB HD space at PAL resolution, but when compressed with Xvid at high quality the same video would require only 250 MB of disk space.
Xvid is widely supported by hardware, allowing users to create video of outstanding quality that is interoperable with home or portable multimedia devices. And because Xvid is open-source, all users can review the Xvid source and check for viruses, spyware and malware, making it future-proof and safe to use.
The Xvid project was invented by Michael Militzer in 2001 and was released as free software under the terms of GNU General Public License. Although developed primarily for PC on Windows and Linus, Xvid also supports other platforms like Mac and iMac on Mac OS X.
