If you are looking for XBMC, you have come to the right place. We explain what XBMC is and point you to the official download.

What is XBMC?

XBMC provides the user with a media center to play and manage their media files on. It is a cross-platform media hub that can run on Apple iOS, Mac OS X, Windows, Linux, Android and BSD.

First released in 2003 for Xbox consoles, the media center was further developed to make it compatible with different types of Operating System platforms. The software however, no longer provides support for Xbox.

The program allows users to play a variety of media files on their machines. It provides support for popular media formats, and allows playback of music or movies streamed over a Local Area Network (LAN) or over the Internet.

XBMC scans the computer for all media files, and then organizes each file into a cataloged library, where file description and album art are also included. It also detects files that have been recently added, and updates the library.

The software is free and open source, allowing other developers to write codes that extend the features of the player. There are likewise add-ons that are provided by the XBMC Team, which the user can download from the official XBMC website.
