Word is Microsoft Office’s word processor where users can create document files, as well as edit and read Word-created files. The application is part of the Microsoft Office Suite which also includes several other applications such as MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS Publisher. The MS Office suite is available for purchase only. A trial version of the entire Office suite may be downloaded from the Microsoft website. The trial period is usually one month or up to 30 days from date of installation.
For users without MS Office installed on the computer, reading a Word document is still possible through Word reader software. This is generally free software that can be downloaded from the Internet. Word Free reader may also be part of office suite that provides the user with a word processor that is similar to MS Word. The Word reader only enables viewing of Word documents. Editing or creating a new Word document may not be available. Microsoft Word and other MS Office applications were developed for Windows computers.
