Microsoft NetShow

What is Microsoft NetShow?

Microsoft NetShow is Microsoft’s original framework for Internet network broadcasting. It was made to compete alongside RealNetworks, RealMedia, and Vivo, which was acquired in 1998 by RealNetworks. This program is now renamed and marketed under the Windows Media umbrella.

Windows Media is a discontinued multimedia framework, specializing in media creation and distribution for Microsoft Windows. The program is made from a software development kit, which comes with many application program interfaces, as well as a number of prebuilt technologies. It is the replacement of NetShow technologies. The Windows Media SDK program was replaced by Media Foundation. The NetShow Real-Time Encoder allows users to take a video or audio source, compress it, and save it to an ASF or send it to the NetShow server to spread the feed. NetShow ASF Editor lets users take still audio and images, and merge them to create an illustrated audio presentation. Users can also include URL flips, markers, and VisualBasic or JavaScript events inside the stream.
