If you are looking for McAfee SiteAdvisor, you have come to the right place. We explain what McAfee SiteAdvisor is and point you to the official download.
What is McAfee SiteAdvisor?
The McAfee Site Advisor is a plugin that is similar to AVG’s LinkScanner technology, which crawls over websites and web pages and offers you real time advisory or reports on the security and safety status of the website. However, unlike LinkScanner which actually goes over the sites and actively protects you from online harm, Site Advisor only gives you a warning that the site may be harmful to your computer, or that a web page may contain malicious code that could infect your system and damage your files. Site Advisor was first developed as-is by a developer of the same name, until it was acquired, including all its technologies, in a 2006 deal by McAfee.
The McAfee Site Advisors collates feedback from McAfee clients, customers and users of the Site Advisor program to actively mark websites if they are harmful or not, and reports this to the user at the time of browsing (or before entering the site). However, it has come under criticism from McAfee’s tepid customer support and the erroneous safety ratings of websites some of which are actually legitimate online portals. This actually mainly due to user abuse, instead of a failing of the software itself.
